Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona Republican Electors Cast Votes for Trump

On December 14th, 2020, during a Total Solar Eclipse, electors in all 50 states cast their votes, with former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) receiving 306 votes to Trump’s 232. However, the Republican parties in several key states such as Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia said their electors cast votes for Trump and Vice President Mike Pence; they said those votes were cast to keep legal challenges open for the president.

Republican electors in four states said on Dec. 14 that they would cast their procedural votes for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, the latest update contesting the results of the 2020 election.

Republican electors in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona all said they voted for Trump. It comes as their states formally appointed Democratic electors who voted for Democrat Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).

In Michigan, two separate slates of electors were cast: 16 for Trump and 16 for Biden.

The dueling sets will likely trigger a contested electoral vote count in Congress. Each slate of electors can be challenged with the approval of one member of the House and one senator. Both chambers of Congress would then retire to debate and vote on the slate.

Depending on the outcome of the Senate runoffs in Georgia, Trump would require near-unanimous support in the Senate to block the approval of Biden’s electors.
